Final Blog: Emerging Media and Me

The entire concept of utilizing emerging media in conjunction with public relations is not new. But there is one company or person in particular that really outlines what using emerging media can do for public relatins and marketing. Darby Doll, senior counselor, heads up JohnstonWells Emerging Media; she outlines exactly what emerging media entails for her and her company:

• Web strategy
• Online media relations
• Web site development
• Use of communication tools, such as blogs, podcasts and instant messaging (which is super intersting given this assignment)
• Blog monitoring and outreach
• Online video production
• E-mail communication
• Viral marketing
• RSS feeds

Basically, the new age of media technology allows communication specialists to do their job to the best of their ablilities and reach much broader publics, which in turn allows for the dissemination of your message at a much faster rate.

public relations and me

I was reading the FAMUAN today and I ran across the article, "Students compete for PR intern supremacy". The first thing I thought was, "wtf!, why didn't I know about this?". The second thing I thought about was how cool it was that young public relations professionals would be able to compete in an "Appretice"-like program in order to win a full time position with Kidd Group Public Relations. It's just another example of how technology and journalism (and journalism related fields) are coming together in a symbiotic relationship that works for everyone, can garner some benefit and can be relatively entertaining as well.

Blogging and Public Relations

The advent of the digital generation has completely changed the face of public relations. To maximize the effectiveness of public relations programs, people are finding that using the internet and all of it's components help achieve objectives. One thing that I found interesting is the fact that public relations companies are acutally using blogs to spread the word about a particular client, company, and/or organization. Blogs in combination with traditional media seem to be a really great combination.

Emerging Media Specialist...

I was looking online the other day for PR jobs and I noticed that Ketchum (a prestigious PR agency) is hiring. They're looking for an interactive strategy and emerging media specialist. As soon as I saw this I immediately thought about this blog. So I went and took a better look at what was meant by interactive strategy and emerging media specialist, and this is what was said. Basically they're looking for, at least 3-5 years experience developing digital solutions for clients, proven strength in creating and executing strategy, and managing interactive programs. So a word to the wise PR student (just in case you didn't already know), get very familiar with the graphic design program because in todays technological climate, we need as much digital help as we can get.
